Synvisc-One Knee Injection Recalled

In December, 2017, Sanofi Genzyme (the Synvixc-One manufacturer) initiated a Synvisc-One knee injection recall for a about 18,000 to 20,000 knee injection syringes. These recalled Synvisc-One injection syringes were found to be contaminated and linked to a surge in painful and uncomfortable Synvisc-One side effects.

The contaminated syringes were associated with lot number 7RSL021, which was sold in the United States from October 25, 2017 through November 7, 2017.  This lot of recalled Synvisc-One knee injection syringes were found to be contaminated in "an ongoing investigation which revealed the presence of microbial contamination." Additionally, the Synvisc-One knee injections that were recalled have been linked to a spike in negative side effects and adverse patient reports to the FDA.

Synvisc-One Injection Syringes Recall

The Synvisc-One Knee Injection Recall was due to "an ongoing investigation which revealed the presence of microbial contamination." The microbe is an airborne organism and is a rare cause of human infections in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients.

When investigators found microbes in a Synvisc-One knee injection lot, Sanofi Genzyme was forced to issue a recall. The microbe is a airborne organism, which causes serious infections and other side effects. However, Sanofi Genzyme has not actually stated what side effects and complications Synvisc-One patients should expect.  The listed warnings on the recalled Synvisc-One syringes include: Pain, Swelling, Heat, Redness, and Fluid Build-Up (Swelling) in and around the Knee.
